The psychology of sleep

In this session, a Positive psychologist will explore the science of sleep and discuss what you can do to establish healthy sleep patterns.

Outline

Sleep, the silent custodian of our decision- making, memory, emotional regulation and learning ability, profoundly impacts both our psychological and physical health, including our immune function. Despite the significant findings from modern science about sleep’s importance, its critical role remains an understated revelation in a “time poor” world.

Ironically, our sleep is often compromised precisely when stress and worry levels spike, even though these are the times we would most benefit from sleep's restorative effects on our wellbeing and performance.

In this talk, we will delve into the science of sleep, its role as a protective factor for our mental and physical health and offer practical strategies for improving sleep.

  • Explore the science of sleep and why it's so important for our physical and psychological wellbeing
  • Recognise the shifts in sleep patterns brought on by lifestyle changes and workplace dynamics
